Recipients of the honor are chosen based on several factors, including athletic, academic and extracurricular achievements.
“In my 15 years as athletic director, I may not have seen a better leader than Nick Cunningham,” said Tom Baker, Hen Hud's athletic director. “Nick embodies the best of what being a high school athlete means. He is the first one to lend a hand to a teammate, greet them with a congratulatory hug or encourage them with his leadership.”
Cunningham, a senior, has thrown for 2,984 career passing yards, a school record, according to lohud.com. He is also a member of the National Honor Society, Math Honor Society and school science club, lohud.com reports.
“Our program is very proud of Nick and all of his accomplishments, both on and off the field,” said Head Coach Mike Lynch. “He is exactly the type of person we want representing our program. His many achievements this season are a testament to his hard work, determination and dedication to his team and the program as a whole.”
